October 17, (THEWILL) – Following the intervention of Hon. Stella Eruvwuoghene Okotete, Executive Director, Business Development, Nigerian Export-Import (NEXIM) Bank, victims of the flood disaster in Uwheru Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government area, have begun settling in the camp for Internally Displaced Persons opened today at Uwheru Grammar School, in Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Conducting an assessment tour of the camp this evening, Barr. Spencer Ohwofa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Ughelli North Constituency II in the forthcoming Delta State House of Assembly election, expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the camp.

He lauded the Lioness of the Niger Delta for her bold intervention in ameliorating the devastating impact of the flood on our people and expressed profound gratitude to her on behalf of the Uwheru people for the noble gesture.

Barr. Ohwofa hinted that with the commencement of camping, more items such as bedding, mosquito nets, toiletries and food would be brought to the facility to accommodate the growing number of displaced persons who are currently being mobilised for camping.

He called on the displaced persons across communities in the kingdom to take advantage of the camp pending when normalcy is restored, emphasising that the safety and security of our people are most paramount at this time.

At the time of filing this report, food items, medical supplies and medics were on the ground to cater to the needs of the people, particularly children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.

In the coming days, more evacuees are expected to be mobilised to the camp from the different communities sacked by the flood.

Some volunteers helping to coordinate affairs at the camp are Uwheru Ward APC Leader, Barr. Hon Igho Arhagba; APC Ward Chairman, Prince Efemona Gideon, Ward Secretary, Hon. Chris Edesemo; Ward Youth Leader, Comr. Peter Mitaire Arhagba; Women Leader, Mrs Dorcas Ugbobor and representatives of the Eruvwuoghene Foundation led by the Delta Central APC Women Leader, Mrs Loveth Omeru.
