January 18, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has “successfully intervened” in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary health and educational institutions across the country, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said.

The Minister announced this on Tuesday, in Yenagoa, during the handing over of a number of internal road projects to the Federal Medical Centre, constructed by the Federal Ministry of Works.

The Ministry has rehabilitated and reconstructed 380 metres of the internal road at the facility, Mr Fashola announced.

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, he said, decided to “step up efforts” to “bridge the infrastructure gaps” in federal education and health institutions across the nation through repairs and reconstruction, as well as rehabilitation of major highways.

The Minister stressed that a total of 64 internal roads have been completed; in addition, construction works are ongoing in 19 others.

Represented by Controller, Works, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Bayelsa State, Patrick Nnaji, the Minister said about 60 people were employed under the civil works project at the Federal Medical Center, Yenagoa.

He added that it is an investment that will further “improve the quality of health care services” at the institution.

In a remark, the Chief Medical Director at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Professor Dennis Alagoa, expressed appreciation to President Buhari for the reconstructed internal roads and other projects carried out by the Federal government at the facility.

The CMD represented by the Head, Clinical Services, Dr Peter Alabrah, said the intervention had made access to the FMC easy for staff and visitors.

The reconstructed internal road project is situated at the back gate of the institution, as well as sections at the entry point at the Federal Medical centre.
