Fernandes, Rashford Lead United Third Place After 2-1 Win Over City

January 14, (THEWILL) – In a highly-anticipated Manchester Derby, Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over rivals Manchester City on Saturday, moving just one point behind City in the English Premier League standings.

The match was intense and closely contested, with both teams showing a strong front-foot approach. However, it was United who ultimately emerged victorious, thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford in the final 12 minutes of the match.

The first half of the match was a cagey affair, with City dominating possession but unable to break through United’s defence. Marcus Rashford, in top form, repeatedly raced into the space left by City’s advanced backline but was unable to convert his chances. City’s Jack Grealish eventually broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, nodding in a cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

But United fought back, with Fernandes levelling the score in the 79th minute and Rashford securing the win just four minutes later. The victory marked United’s ninth consecutive win across all competitions, and City’s second straight defeat. The result has now put United in the top three of the Premier League standings.

United will play against the leaders, Arsenal, next Sunday, and it will be a tough test for them. City, on the other hand, will need to bounce back and play against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
