January 11, (THEWILL) – As Chelsea fans celebrate the arrival of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid, with the hope that the incredibly talented forward, who has not been at his best at the club level in a while, could spark their campaign in the second part of the year, interest quickly turned to what jersey number he will wear in west London.
When he arrived at Stamford Bridge, there was no official confirmation from the club, but it has since become evident which two digits will be on the back of his Chelsea jersey. Felix’s brief stint with Chelsea will see him don the number 11 jersey.
Timo Werner is one of Chelsea’s most recent wearers of the number 11 jersey between 2020-2022. Others who have played with that number include Pedro (2016-2020), Alexandre Pato (2016), Juan Cuadrado (2015-2016) and Didier Drogba (2014-2015).
As Chelsea’s latest number 11, Felix is continuing Werner’s legacy. The German was a charming character and a helpful outlet, but his prolific play at Leipzig did not carry over to the English Premier League. After two years at the club, Werner has subsequently returned to Die Roten Bullen.
Of all, Didier Drogba has enjoyed the most success among other holders of the shirt. The Ivorian is a living Chelsea icon and is recognised as one of the all-time best attackers in the EPL. Blues’ fans will hope Felix can channel some of that attacking prowess while in west London.
