January 17, (THEWILL) – Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers have been charged by the Football Association (FA) for breaching FA Rule E20.1 after tempers flared following their Carabao Cup match last week.

Forest sealed victory on penalties in the quarter-final match, but players from both sides were involved in a scuffle after the shootout, with stewards having to intervene.

An FA statement on Monday, stated: “It’s alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour after the final whistle.” Both clubs have until Thursday, January 19th, to respond to the charges.

The incident occurred after Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White celebrated victory against his former club. Despite the melee, both Forest Manager, Steve Cooper and Wolves Manager, Julen Lopetegui, attempted to play down the incident, with Lopetegui stating: “We tried to separate (the players). There was a bit of confusion at the end of the match, but no more.”

The incident will not affect Forest’s upcoming semi-final match against Manchester United, with the first leg scheduled for January 25th at the City Ground, and the second leg set for one week later at Old Trafford.
