Equity Market Closes On Positive Note

A total turnover of 839.978 million shares worth N12.418 billion in 16,183 deals was traded last week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 711.618 million shares valued at N15.338 billion that exchanged hands in the previous week in 16,662 deals.

The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 616.627 million shares valued at N4.305 billion traded in 7,609 deals; thus contributing 73.41% and 34.67% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. The Conglomerates Industry followed with 78.470 million shares worth N260.581 million in 575 deals.

The third place was the ICT Industry, with a turnover of 46.619 million shares worth N5.717 billion in 1,222 deals. Trading in the top three equities namely Regency Assurance Plc, FBN Holdings Plc and

FCMB Group Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 256.521 million shares worth N1.237 billion in 1,042 deals, contributing 30.54% and 9.96% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

A total of 2,400 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETP) valued at N1.256 million were traded in the week in 36 deals compared

with a total of 7,712 units valued at N980,634.80 transacted in the previous week in 31 deals.

In case of Bonds, a total of 9,687 units valued at N6.330 million were traded this week in 18 deals compared with a total of 21,215 units valued at N22.462 million transacted lin the previous week in 10 deals

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalization appreciated by 1.26% to close the week at 48,154.65 and N26.229 trillion respectively. Similarly, all other indices finished higher with the exception of NGX Consumer Goods,

NGX Industrial Goods and NGX Growth indices which depreciated by 0.61%, 1.20% and .07% respectively, while the NGX ASeM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices closed flat.
