January 09, (THEWILL) – The President of Middle Belt Youth Vanguard, Godwin Meliga, has been arrested by operatives of the State Security Services (DSS).
Family members, who confirmed his arrest to newsmen on Monday, said Meliga was arrested on Saturday night, at his residence in Gwarimpa.
He was said to be wearing only boxers and a singlet at the time of the arrest.
The family disclosed that the men of the Service had been on his trail as they had earlier arrested his closest ally, Samson Babalola, on Thursday.
His arrest, the family said, may not be unconnected to his vocal voice against an alleged plot by the DSS to arrest the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, for terrorism financing.
Quoting a DSS source, the family alleged that Meliga was arrested for causing the Service untold embarrassment through the exposure of the plot to frame the CBN Governor for terrorism.
“They said the boss of the DSS felt utterly humiliated by the press conference of the Coalition of National Interest Defenders, exposing the plot and that all members of the leadership of the coalition will be arrested for causing the DG such embarrassment.
“His wife, who has been weeping since the attack on her husband has informed us that Comrade Meliga has routine drugs he takes religiously and this unwarranted arrest would put his life in grave danger,” his family said.
Publicity Secretary of the Middle Belt Youth Vanguard, Abbah Owoicho, skits its National Executive Committee have been summoned to Abuja, for an emergency meeting to seek ways of securing his immediate release.
