September 05, (THEWILL) – Emergency workers have recovered one additional corpse from the rubbles of a seven-storey building, which collapsed in Lagos on Sunday.
THEWILL had reported that a seven-story building in Oba Idowu Street, Oniru, collapsed in the Victoria Island area of the state on Sunday.
Some of the workers who escaped from the incident claimed that six of their colleagues were trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
While emergency responders recovered two bodies from the site on Sunday and three others earlier on Monday, an additional corpse was retrieved from the site on Monday afternoon.
Ibrahim Farinloye, South-West zonal coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the recovery of the sixth corpse.
The remote and immediate causes of the building’s collapse have yet to be ascertained.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing as the rescue teams are digging down to ground zero.
