September 18, (THEWILL) – A former member of the staff of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Williams Olanrewaju, has sued the Chairman of the agency, Brig-Gen Mohammed Marwa (retd.), for unlawful dismissal after he exposed some corrupt officers in the agency.

Olarenwaju approached the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), claiming that his case was not well investigated before he was dismissed from the agency. He had worked with the sensitive Investigation Unit of the agency in Lekki, Lagos State for three years, though he joined the agency in 2011.

He claimed that he would have advanced in his career but for victimisation. According to him, his ordeal started after he discovered that his superiors were involved in bribery, tampering with seized items and refusing to arrest those in possession of hard drugs. When his superiors got to know that he was aware of their dubious ways, they allegedly started victimising him and he was eventually dismissed from work.

Olanrewaju asked the court to restore his employment. He also requested his monthly salary to be paid from the time he was dismissed and demanded compensation from the NDLEA to the tune of N80 million for violating his fundamental rights as guaranteed by Section 34 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Constitution of 1999 as amended.
