November 14, (THEWILL) – Presnel Kimpembe, who was selected in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, has been dropped and Axel Disasi of AS Monaco has taken his place ahead of France leaving for Qatar.
Prior to PSG’s game on Sunday, Kimpembe had only played 59 minutes of football since September 18 due to an injury he was recovering from. But the centre-back entered the game in the final 15 minutes of PSG’s 5-0 victory. However, he has not fully recovered from his injury and will not play in the World Cup in Qatar.
Following discussions between Kimpembe and the France team doctor and later between the player and Deschamps, the choice was made on Monday morning in Clairefontaine. He has been replaced by Disasi, who has not yet earned a cap for France or even made the team previously.
In September, the Monaco centre defender was named to Deschamps’ provisional squad but was ultimately left out. Benoît Badiashile, a teammate, was called up in his place but was ultimately not selected for the World Cup roster.
