Depay Fires Back At Critics Claiming He’s Delaying Recovery From Injury

November 04, (THEWILL) – Memphis Depay has directly refuted suggestions that he is holding off on making a full recovery from his injury, in order to defend himself from further layoffs ahead of the World Cup.

Memphis had a hamstring injury in September, and as a result, has missed his team’s last ten games across all competitions. Some Spanish media recently questioned the Dutchman’s continued absence, even going as far as to suggest he is purposefully prolonging his return to keep him from developing any new issues before the World Cup.

Memphis addressed the rumours on Twitter posting: “Hearing some disrespectful rumours about me purposely slowing down my injury. The media sharing things so easy without actually knowing the facts which as end result creates a negative narrative around my name! Don’t ever disrespect my professionalism!”

The Dutch media stated that the 28-year-old would be back in action in “four or five weeks” when Memphis initially suffered the injury, which occurred during a Nations League match with Poland on international duty.

Memphis is not expected to play for Barcelona before the World Cup, which begins in about three weeks, and Barcelona is thought to have accepted this with no set timeframe for his comeback.
