October 24, (THEWILL) – On Sunday in La Liga, Ousmane Dembele scored and assisted Sergi Roberto, Robert Lewandowski, and Ferran Torres as Barcelona easily defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-0.
Dembele’s soaring header from close range in the 12th minute was the first of three home goals scored in the space of 10 minutes for the hosts. Six minutes later, Dembele set Roberto up with some outstanding one-touch build-up play, and the Spanish full-back’s shot bounced in off a defender past a helpless Unai Simon.
In the 22nd minute, Lewandowski swivelled and finished with a powerful shot after Dembele sprinted down the right channel and crossed for him so that it was 3-0 before the interval.
After the break, Barca slowed down a bit, but Dembele still had time to contribute another assist, this time for Torres to score from close range.
The race for La Liga in 2022/2023 appears to be a two-horse contest between Barça and Real. With 28 points, Barcelona is still in second place overall, three points behind Real Madrid in the lead and five points ahead of third-place Atletico Madrid. Barca have a UEFA Champions League tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, while Athletic will play Villarreal on Sunday.
