September 27, (THEWILL) – At the age of 32, former England and Manchester City midfielder, Fabian Delph, has announced his retirement from the game.

The former Everton player, whose career began with Leeds United and also included time at Aston Villa, had been without a team since his deal with the Toffees expired in June.

He posted a farewell message on social media that read: “So today I announce my retirement with nothing but happiness and gratitude for what this beautiful game has given me.

“[A] massive shout out to my family, friends, players and staff from the amazing clubs I have been fortunate enough to represent, as well as the support I have had from the fans.”

Over the course of a 16-year career, Delph won the Premier League twice with City and finished second to Villa in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

He received 20 caps for the Three Lions and was a surprise recall for Gareth Southgate in 2018 after three years away from the international stage. He then joined the team that finished fourth in Russia 2018.
