Cristiano Ronaldo needs to make a swift decision on where he wants to finish his career, believes Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Terry Gibson.

Reports in the British media have talked up a possible return to Manchester United for Ronaldo, while Sky Sports’ Guillem Balague has suggested PSG as a potential next destination.

Ronaldo made his name at Old Trafford in a six-year spell between 2003-2009, before joining Real Madrid in an £80m move. Since moving to Spain, he has been smashing goalscoring records, netting 326 goals in just 313 appearances.

Ronaldo – on target again in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Las Palmas – fuelled speculation over his future by telling Spanish news agency Efe: “At this moment, I’m happy playing for Real Madrid but I don’t know what will happen in my future. I must choose the way that makes me happy.”

Gibson believes Ronaldo will remain at the Bernabeu – for the rest of this term, at least – but must make a call on his next step soon.

“We’re coming to the stage now where there has to be a decision one way or the other – he’ll be 31 by the end of the season,” Gibson told Sky Sports News HQ.

“I certainly don’t envisage him leaving the club this season.

“He was rather subdued at the weekend, though so were Real Madrid in fairness; they knew they could step up a gear and beat their opponents comfortably.

“Ronaldo has to make the decision but there’s a business aspect for Real Madrid, too. Do they cash in on him? Do they try to recoup some of the money they paid to get him to Real Madrid?

“For Ronaldo, he has to go where he’s happy; he’s breaking all the records at Real Madrid. He’d like one or two more trophies and he’ll be hoping that will happen this season.

“It’s make or break now. He either stays at Real Madrid for the rest of his career or he’ll move on next summer.”
