December 30, (THEWILL) – The London trip by the five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to decide on a preferred presidential candidate has ended in division.
Self-styled integrity group, the governors, commonly referred to as G5, have withdrawn support from their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Led by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, other members of the G5 are Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
The group left Nigeria for London on Monday, to finalise their choice of Presidential candidate. Reports also said the five governors met with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in London, to finalise the deal.
But despite media reports that the group has reached an agreement to support Tinubu, presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, THEWILL gathered that the London fiasco has rather created division within the group.
According to a source familiar with discussions in the meeting, while Wike and Makinde had decided to support Tinubu, Benue governor, Samuel Ortom, has pledged his support for Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
According to a report by THISDAY, Abia State governor, Ikpeazu and his counterpart in Enugu, Ugwuanyi, agreed to work for the APC presidential candidate but expressed fear over repercussions the move will generate in the South-east.
THEWILL also gathered that the G5 were unanimous in their decision not to support the presidential bid of Atiku Abubakar.
