October 10, (THEWILL) – Thibaut Courtois is expected to recover from an injury in time for Real Madrid’s Clasico fixture against Barcelona on Sunday, according to coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Courtois was placed on indefinite leave by Madrid at the beginning of the month when it was discovered he had sciatica and he returned after a 2-1 victory at Atletico Madrid on September 18.
He has so far missed three games in all competitions and that number will now include Tuesday’s Warsaw game against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.
Fortunately, Ancelotti’s first-choice goalkeeper is anticipated to be prepared for Sunday’s top-of-the-table matchup with Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The manager confirmed this himself on Monday, saying: “Courtois is much better. The plan is for him to start training on Thursday and be ready for Sunday. We have spoken with him and he is much better.”
