October 27, (THEWILL) – After their contentious 1-1 draw with Sporting CP on Wednesday, Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Antonio Conte, addressed just one question in his post-match press conference before leaving.
With a win and one game remaining, Spurs would have qualified for the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League as the group champions. Ex-Spurs Academy player, Marcus Edwards, gave Sporting the lead, but Spurs came back in the second half and tied the score with a goal from Rodrigo Bentancur.
Harry Kane believed he had won it in the last seconds of stoppage time, but after a three-minute VAR review, his goal was chalked out for offside, even though some angles of the replay cast doubt on the decision.
After this call, Conte was dismissed for his objections to the decision, and in his post-game interview with the media, he vented his rage in a single outburst. He disagreed with his sending off and was sceptical about the benefits of VAR if such decisions continue to be made especially against Spurs in England and Europe.
If Spurs defeat Marseille next week, they will finish first in their group, while a draw would guarantee advancement to the knockout stages.
