October 21, (THEWILL) – Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, the comedian and actor, has alleged that the clampdown on youths marking this year’s #EndSARS anniversary was reduced because it’s election season.

The film star spoke while participating in a peace walk at the Lekki tollgate axis of Lagos state on Thursday.

The walk was in commemoration of the Nigerians, who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protest against police brutality on the night of October 20, 2020.

Speaking with an Arise TV reporter, Mr Macaroni claimed that, unlike last year when he and many protesters were assaulted, the security operatives were being careful because it is election season.

“It clampdown on protesters won’t be the same thing this year. They won’t touch anybody because it’s election season and they are looking for votes.

“That’s to show you how deceitful the government can sometimes be. So they need to realise that this fight is for the Nigerian people.

“Before becoming a police officer, governor and president, you are first a Nigerian. So at the end of the day, if Nigeria is good for everyone, we will have a peaceful country.”

The skit maker said the demand for justice would not stop until the government did the “right thing”.

“We should throw this question to the government. For how long should we continue to do this? A government should be one to serve and protect the people, not one that will say ‘come today, go tomorrow.

“We should ask the government, are we going to be here next year? Are they going to fulfil the promises, so this is a call of action to the federal and state government to do the right thing?
