June 12, (THEWILL)- There were scary scenes in Saturday’s slate of Euros 2020 fixtures when Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, part of the title-winning Inter Milan squad of the 2020/2021 Serie A campaign, collapsed during the match between Denmark and Finland.
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) confirmed that they immediately stepped in to suspend the match as a consequence.
Eriksen suddenly collapsed just before half-time in an off-the-ball incident and with no players directly near him at the time. Players on both the Finnish and Danish side immediately drew the referee Anthony Taylor’s attention to inform him of the condition of Eriksen.
As soon as it was established that something was seriously wrong, the medical staff were on the scene instantly and began trying to resuscitate Eriksen as his team-mates surrounded him with worry on their faces.
A couple of minutes later, with the resuscitation ongoing, UEFA officially suspended the game.
While it allowed the Finnish players and match officials to return to the changing rooms, the Danish players stayed on the pitch with Eriksen to see to his recovery.
