January 07, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain narrowly avoided an upset in Friday’s Coupe de France match against Chateauroux, eventually earning a 3-1 win.
Without their star players Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe, PSG relied on Hugo Ekitike, Pablo Sarabia, and Carlos Soler to lead the attack.
The match got off to a quick start with a goal from Ekitike in the 13th minute, but Chateauroux responded with a goal from Natanael Ntolla before halftime. It wasn’t until the 78th minute that PSG regained the lead, with Soler scoring off of a rebound from a save by Chateauroux’s goalkeeper, Paul Delecroix.
In the dying minutes of the match, Juan Bernat added a third goal for PSG to secure the victory despite Chateauroux’s strong showing. The result sees PSG secure their place in the last-32 stage of the competition which they are top favourites to win.
PSG recovered from their first loss of the season in their last match by securing a spot in the next round of competition. They will turn their focus back to the league against Angers on Wednesday. The next for Chateauroux is a Championnat National game against Red Star.
