January 20, (THEWILL) – The Galaxies of Ghana secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Sudan in the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), on Thursday.
Sudan took the lead in the 31st minute through Al Gozoli Nooh, but Ghana fought back and equalised in the third minute of first-half stoppage time through Konadu Yiadom.
The second half saw Ghana take control of the match, with captain Daniel Afriyie converting a penalty in the 65th minute to give his side a 2-1 lead. Sudan had several chances to equalise, but Ahmed Adam Ahmed sent his free-kick attempt wide, and Yasir Mozamil Mohamed, had his shot cleared off the line.
Despite Sudan’s late push for an equaliser, especially after Ghana was reduced to 10 men with Afriyie’s red card, the Ghanaians managed to hold on for the win, with substitute Seidu Suraj, scoring the third goal in the 98th minute.
With this win, Ghana moved into second place with three points, behind Madagascar with six points, after two match days.
