January 06, (THEWILL) – Aleksander Ceferin is expected to be re-elected as the President of UEFA for a third term without opposition.
The governing body announced that Ceferin is the only candidate for the position in the upcoming elections, which will take place on April 5, in Lisbon.
Ceferin has been the UEFA President since September 2016 and began a new four-year term in February 2019. His tenure will now be extended until 2027, as the deadline for other candidates to oppose him passed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Noel Le Graet, the current President of the French Football Federation, may be replaced on the FIFA Council by Fernando Gomes, the Portugal FA Chief. Gomes is hoping to secure the necessary votes to take Le Graet’s seat.
In other news, the deadline for candidates to submit their names for seats on the UEFA Executive Committee is February 5.
