January 25, (THEWILL) – Cape Verde concluded their Group A campaign in the 2023 WAFU ‘A’ Women’s Championship with a resounding 6-0 victory over Mauritania.
The match got off to a quick start with Moreira scoring from the penalty spot in the seventh minute. Just 10 minutes later, she doubled the lead with a well-placed shot. Before the half-time break, Moreira completed her hat-trick with a goal in the 28th minute.
The host nation continued to dominate in the second half, with Borges making it 4-0 in the 14th minute. Moreira added two more goals to complete the crushing victory.
It was befitting, therefore, to see Moreira named Woman of the Match for her outstanding performance and now leads the tournament in goals scored with seven. Senegal’s Habsatou Diallo and Gambia’s Catherine Jatta follow with six and five goals respectively.
The comprehensive win was a fitting end to Cape Verde’s Group A campaign and sets them up well for the semi-final stage of the tournament.
