CAF Set To Employ VAR In Women’s Champions League Semis And Final

November 15, (THEWILL) – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will deploy the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the semi-finals and finals of the maiden edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt,.

“It is yet another milestone by CAF and a clear demonstration of the organization’s commitment not only to promote women’s football in Africa but to advance professionalism on the continent”, according to the statement from the continental body that made this public.

CAF admitted to been overwhelmed by the global community’s response since the competition’s opening game on November 5. Over 30 countries, including Africa, South America, Oceania, Europe, and South America, have watched the matches.

Only four sides remain in the competition: Hasaacas Ladies (Ghana), Malabo Kings (Equatorial Guinea), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), and ASFAR (Morocco). They will compete for a shot at the final, which will take place at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium on Friday, November 19, 2021 with a 19h00 kickoff time (6 pm in Nigeria).

Before the final on Monday, November 15 at Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium, Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies will seek to challenge for the first-ever continental women’s League trophy against Morocco’s ASFAR at 3 pm local time.

At 6 pm on the same day, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns will do the same against Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea to determine which pair of female teams will compete in the final on Friday and become the first-ever continental women’s champions.
