January 30, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion have strengthened their midfield with the signing of young Sweden international Yasin Ayari.
The 19-year-old, who previously played for AIK, has joined the English Premier League club on a four-and-a-half-year deal for a reported fee of £5.2 million. Sporting Director, David Weir, said Ayari is a versatile and technical player, who is capable of playing across the midfield.
Meanwhile, speculation continues to mount over the future of Moises Caicedo. The Ecuador international has informed Brighton of his desire to leave the club, with Arsenal submitting a bid last week reported to be worth £60 million. Caicedo was not involved in Brighton’s 2-1 FA Cup win against Liverpool on Sunday and the Gunners are said to have submitted a new offer worth £70 million.
In an open message to the club, Caicedo expressed his pride in potentially bringing in a record transfer fee for Brighton. The club has already sold Leandro Trossard to Arsenal this month, and Caicedo’s departure would allow the club to reinvest in the squad and continue its success.
With the transfer window closing soon, the outcome of Caicedo’s future remains uncertain but Ayari’s arrival points to Brighton’s decision to shore up their bets in the event that Caicedo leaves for the Emirates.
