October 29, (THEWILL) – Graham Potter’s return to his old team, Brighton and Hove Albion, resulted in a heartbreaking first loss as Chelsea’s head coach, as they ran out victorious 4-1 winners at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday.
Potter wanted to make history at Chelsea by becoming the first English manager to go unbeaten in his first 10 matches, but the Seagulls were hungry and gave new manager, Roberto De Zerbi, his first victory in a resounding fashion.
Leandro Trossard’s early goal and goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah — both own goals, effectively sealed Chelsea’s defeat by halftime.
Just after the break, Kai Havertz gave the Blues fans some hope when he put one in for the visitors, but a late goal from Pascal Gross added icing to a sweet victory for the hosts and gave De Zerbi something to celebrate.
Brighton rises to seventh in the Premier League rankings, while Chelsea remains fifth. Before facing Arsenal next weekend, the Blues will play Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League while Brighton will travel to Wolves next weekend.
