Borno: Boko Haram Takes Over Bilta In Reprisal Attack

SAN FRANCISCO, June 10, (THEWILL) – The withdrawal of the military troops from Bilta, Borno State, where they killed 50 Boko Haram gunmen weekend has created the opportunity for the insurgents to launch a reprisal attack on the village.

The insurgents who launched the daring attack on the village Monday are said to have now taken full control of their village.

Though the casualty figure could not be ascertained in the latest attack, the insurgents are said to have taken over the village, destroying many buildings in the raid.

Security sources in the area said over 350 insurgents, armed with rocket propelled grenades stormed the village from the bushes and attacked the military formation in Bilta.

“The terrorists re-mobilised and attacked Bilta after the heavy casualty they recorded at the weekend. Our troops withdrew for strategic reasons only and not out of fear. Remember that we recorded a huge success on Saturday and Sunday,” the security source told THEWILL.

This came as a resident of the village also told THEWILL that: “The insurgents were well kitted in military fatigue and drove in about 35 vehicles and dozens of motorcycles. They also had armoured personnel carriers and they instilled fear in everyone.”
