BEVERLY HILLS, April 05, (THEWILL) – The past few weeks has seen an increasing number of Nigerian youth tattooing celebrities on different body parts, all in a bid to catch their attention and possibly get financial rewards or connection from them. The speed at which this latest trend is fast becoming the norm is to say the least, alarming.

The trend began with ex Big Brother Naija housemate, Anita Natacha Akide more popularly known as Tacha, who boldly inscribed Davido’s face slightly below her cleavage. That singular act brought her fame and also got the attention of the singer who eventually started following her on social media. However, following her participation in the reality show, she resorted to covering up the tattoo with makeup each time she wears clothes with plunging necklines.

Another diehard follower of the popular singer, also embossed his face and that of his children on her back. This year alone, over 10 youth took the tattoo trend a notch further when several young ladies and a young man tattooed crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, otherwise known as Bobrisky on different parts of their bodies. Each of them got monetary rewards for their acts with the cross dresser taking the young man under his wings for ‘tutelage’ after a passionate public plea by the young man’s mother to Okuneye, to help her son. Seeing that she could likely make some money off this trend, another young lady tattooed ex Big Brother Naija housemate, Ka3na’s face on her body. Unfortunately, her action got her a backlash from her ‘celebrity idol’.

Not forgetting another lady who tattooed Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s face on her back including his date of birth, face and signature cap She is one of the unlucky ones who never got a reward for her “heroic deed”.

Also, actress Esther Nwachukwu who is a huge fan of her colleague, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, otherwise known as Junior Pope got his initials tattooed on her body, an act she did as far back as 2018. However this didn’t come to light until a few weeks ago when she took to social media to lament that the actor’s wife blocked her from communicating with her on all social media platforms for no just cause even though they were both friendly at some point.

More recently, a pregnant woman tattooed singer Mayorkun’s face on her growing baby bump but the singer who was shocked by her action told her on his social media page that “she was crazy”.

Not also forgetting how a lady got disowned by her father for jumping on the tattoo bandwagon.

Judging by how far Nigerian youth are willing to go to achieve their heart’s desire, it is unlikely that we have seen the last of this.
