BMNA: Wike, Others Bag Awards

January 04, (THEWILL) – Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has won the Governor of the year award at the 4th edition of the Bayelsa Media Network Award (BMNA) in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The award was held at Siseli Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, secretariat, along Azikoro Road, Ekeki, Yenagoa.

The Rivers State Governor was honoured for his uplift in the standard of living in his state.

Also, for his giant strides in infrastructure, good governance and his doggedness in the avowed crusade against injustices and lack of transparency in governance, among other indices considered.

Though not physically present, the award was received on his behalf by the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers state, Evangelist Hope Ikiriko, who himself, was awarded the Best Performing Local Government Chairman in the South-South geopolitical zone.

While receiving the award on behalf of Governor Wike, Ikiriko applauded the organisers of the BMNA for honouring the Governor, adding that the award would amongst others, spur Wike to continue to do more in uplifting not only the people of Rivers state but the entire Niger Delta region.

On his part, Ikiriko posited that the unique award, which he did not solicit, would also spur him to do more for his people at the grassroots and promised not to relent.

Other recipients of the award are Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo; Dr Gloria Douye Diri, Bayelsa State Governor’s wife; Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Dr Gentle Emelah; Amanyanabo of Opu Nembe, King Josiah Biobelemonye among others.

A total of 42 distinguished people were honoured in their chosen endeavours of humanity.

While Mrs Diri was honoured as the ‘Quintessential symbol of hope for the Girl- child, women and the Elderly’, the Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo was honoured with the ‘Quintessential epitome of humility, integrity and good leadership’. Likewise, Dr Gentle Emelah was honoured with the award of the ‘Public servant of the year’ in Bayelsa state.

Speaking during the occasion, the Project Manager, Blessing Ozegbe, said the awards were meant to celebrate excellence, innovations, skills, acumen, ingenuity, expertise and philanthropy of men and women doing their best to better humanity and society at large.

He averred that the motive behind the awards was to recognize Nigerians, who have excelled in their fields of endeavour and impacted humanity and society at large.
