October 28, (THEWILL) – For the fourth time in a row, Senegal has won the Beach Soccer 2022 AFCON championship, after defeating Egypt on Friday, to clinch their seventh overall title.
The Teranga Lions finished the game all square at 2-2 against the Pharaohs, who they eventually beat in the ensuing penalty shootout.
Earlier, the Senegalese were unable to keep their lead as the Egyptians not only equalised but inched ahead with a lead of their own to hold a 2-1 advantage. The hard work of the Lions paid dividends as they found the goal to make sure it was 2-2 before the end of regular time.
In the penalty shootouts that followed, Senegal demonstrated that they are the most skilled team on the beach by winning 6-5 to retain their title.
