September 17, (THEWILL) – For the fourth straight game, Bayern Munich failed to get a win in the Bundesliga after a shocking 1-0 loss at Augsburg on Saturday.
At the WWK Arena in Augsburg, Mergim Berisha’s goal in the second half was sufficient to give Enrico Maassen’s team the victory over their Bavarian giants.
Julian Nagelsmann side was sluggish, managing only a few half-chances while failing to outshine Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz. Bayern’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer came the closest, being put forward in the waning seconds and seeing Gikiewicz block his strong header.
Since their 7-0 demolition of Bochum on August 21, the defending Bundesliga champions have been without a victory in the top division.
With nine points after that historic win, Augsburg moves up three spots to 11th position, solidifying their place in the middle of the table. Bayern’s season has gotten off to a bad start, as their four-game Bundesliga winless run continues.
As Freiburg and Union Berlin still have games to play, they drop to fourth, three points behind new leaders Dortmund, and it may be that Bayern must battle tooth and nail to win the Bundesliga this year.
