BEVERLY HILLS, April 18, (THEWILL) – Hansi Flick, coach of Bavarian giants Bayern Munich, has confirmed his intention to step down as Bayern Munich boss at the end of the season, attesting to rumours that this could be the end of the manager in the Bundesliga.

THEWILL recalls that two club legends at the Allianz Arena grounds of the German champions Lothar Matthaeus and Stefan Effenberg had concluded, based on their own knowledge of the inner workings of the club, that the relationship between Flick and Bayern’s Sporting Director, Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic has broken down to such an extent that one may be forced to leave.

They founded their conclusion on the differences of opinions the two influential men have on a plethora of issues but most especially about the club’s transfer policies that impact squad composition and formation. They affirmed that these differences have become too entrenched and far apart as to render the contention between the two football administrators virtually unfixable, which may have led Flick to conclude it was time to leave.

Flick is also rumoured to be in the runnings to take over as Germany coach when Joachim Low leaves his post following this year’s Euro 2020, as Low has confirmed his intention to move on.

Flick took sole charge of Bayern following the sacking of former coach, the Croatian Niko Kovac, two years ago. It was a successful takeover as he subsequently led them to a Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League treble, earning a new contract that ran until 2023, as deserving of his success.

But it appears everything is not as club president Herbert Hainer claimed there were. Speaking of the disagreement between the director and coach, the President who acknowledged the fact that both men were “two opinionated types,” added “[they] both have the same goal. In the last 18 months the two have built a team that has won six titles and plays attractive football. It can’t be that bad. They don’t have to be lovers. They have to work well together — and they do that.”

Now, after weeks of speculation, Flick has now revealed that he wishes to depart at the end of the 2020/2021 campaign.

Speaking to Sky after their Saturday 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, Flick said: “I told the team today that I would like to get out of my contract this summer.

“I already told those responsible after the Champions League elimination [against Paris Saint-Germain] during the week. I wanted to tell the team personally.

“I also want to thank the club that gave me the opportunity to train this team.”
