November 25, (THEWILL) – The Urhobo Progress Union Worldwide, Bayelsa state chapter, has inaugurated an executive council to run its affairs for the next three years.
Those inaugurated were, Olorogun Charles Oruru, President; Olorogun Gabriel Ephrorhire, Vice president; Ms patience Olokpa, Secretary; Evang Alfred Akpoterevwen, PRO; Pastor Godgift Oyeghe, Publicity Secretary; Olorogun Peter Ikoko, Provost; Ms Blessing Idoghor, Assistant Financial Secretary; Olorogun Moses Idike, Treasurer; Gabriel Olomoro, Financial Secretary; Igba Stella, Organising Secretary; Olorogun Agbogun Lucky, Assistant Provost; Mr Ewharieme Simeon, Assistant Secretary and Ms Kate Idimi, Welfare Officer.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration, Olorogun Charles Oruru, appreciated the leadership and membership of the entire Urhobo Progress union in Bayelsa state for considering them worthy to be given another tenure of three years, to pilot the affairs of the Urhobo Progress Union in Bayelsa state, promising that he would not betray the confidence reposed on them and pledged their unalloyed commitment to the progress and growth of the union.
On what he considered to be his achievements and why he was given another three years mandate, Olorogun Charles Oruru, who hails from Uwheru in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state, said unity among Urhobos living in Bayelsa state was paramount because, for the period of his leadership, there has been renewed love and unity among the Urhobos that see and relate with one another as brothers and sisters, despite the fact that they all came from the 24 clans that constitute Urhobo Kingdom, the fifth largest ethnic clans in Nigeria with diverse culture; “Unity among Urhobo in Bayelsa state, I am very glad to see that Urhobo residents in Bayelsa has improved rapidly more than ever before and l pray God helps us to be more united.
“Registration of clans has increased from five to seventeen clans now. Also, the UPU under my watch has been functioning very well among other ethnic groups, such as Delta Forum, Supreme Council for Non-Indigenes and Great South-South meeting in the state.”
He also listed the cordial relationship that has existed between the state government and other ethnic nationalities in the state, as the Urhobos have not relented in working in synergy with other socio-cultural organisations. He also pledged his unalloyed support and cooperation with the state government for providing the enabling environment for the Urhobo to eke out their living from different enterprises and seek cooperation and support from all and sundry.
Among the dignitaries that witnessed the inauguration were the Okobaro 1 of Urhobo in Bayelsa state, HRH King Joshua Apoyi Aweyu, who superintendents over the 24 clans of Urhobo residents in Bayelsa state, Deacon Kingsley Akpaka, ex-president of UPU, Bayelsa state Chapter, Olorogun Aherhoke Amos Okioma, Pastor Osegi, Comrade Gift Okrika, president of the UPU Youth Wing, Mr Williams Oduawaye, Mr Anthony Adjekughene, Saturday Enobie, Hon Moses Gelor, Johnbull Keleye, amongst others.
