October 31, (THEWILL) – Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United has only played 27 games for the club since joining from Lyon, but he has been so impressive that Barcelona is now interested in signing him.
Prior to moving for £40 million to Newcastle in January, Guimaraes, 24, played three seasons with Lyon and in just 11 starts in the previous Premier League season, he scored five goals. This season, with Newcastle unbeaten in the 10 games he has started, he has added two goals and two assists.
Newcastle presently sits in the fourth position in the Premier League table, thanks in large part to the eight-cap Brazil international, and they may now have to fend off interest from Barca.
After being “priced out” of a move for Bernardo Silva when Manchester City put an £80 million price tag on him, Barcelona has officially given up on that negotiation and is now concentrating their attention on Guimaraes.
However, Guimaraes would undoubtedly be expensive. His contract keeps him at Newcastle through 2026, therefore a large offer would be required to lure the 24-year-old. The Magpies reportedly want to settle any lingering doubts about Guimaraes’ future by offering him a new contract that will pay him £200,000 per week. However, their spending binge will eventually need to be offset by some sales
