January 15, (THEWILL) – At least eight women have been kidnapped on Sunday morning, by suspected bandits, operating in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State

Chairman of Community Policing Relation in Kankara LGA, Bello Bello, who confirmed the incident, said the victims, all females, were abducted while heading to Church for Sunday Worship Service.

He said a Pastor was also reported to have been injured during the attack.

Bello, however, debunked an earlier report credited to Rev. Ishaya Jurau, the Senior Special Assistant on Christian Affairs to Governor Aminu Bello Masari, that the bandits kidnapped the worshippers inside the New Life Church, located at Gidan Haruna.

However, a resident source in the area, who confirmed the attack, said those kidnapped included six married women and two single ladies. He, however, said the attack took place inside the church contrary to what Bello said.

“The bandits came to the church riding on nine motorcycles and surrounded the church. Then they started forcing the members out of the church, but the Pastor tried to prevent them. So, they beat him up and broke his leg before disappearing with the six married women and two single ladies from the church premises.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Christian Affairs, Rev. Jurau, in an earlier statement, said 25 worshippers were abducted.

“Bandits attacked New Life for All Church in Jan-Tsauni, Gidan Haruna in Kankara local government of Katsina State today (Sunday) around 10 am.

“They abducted 25 worshippers and left the church pastor with injuries, while they were conducting service this morning”, Jurau had said in a statement earlier.

However, findings by THEWILL revealed that some of the victims have already been freed from the abductors.
