December 06, (THEWILL) – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed 1,200 Corps members to Bayelsa state, for the 2022 Batch C, stream II national service year, warning Corps members to avoid cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
The NYSC, through the Acting Director General, Mrs Christy Uba, told corps members during the swearing-in ceremony of 2022 Batch C, stream II corps members, presided over by the State Chief Judge, Justice Kate Abiri, represented by Justice Timipre Songi, also urged the corps members to avoid the temptation of using social media to spread fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes.
Christy Uba, who was represented by the Bayelsa State Coordinator, Mr Muhammed Adamu Jiya, reminded the corps members of their oath of allegiance on the mode of conduct during and after their service year, insisting that the major objectives of NYSC are the promotion of national unity and integration.
He called on Corps members to continue to be the champion of national integration, unity, peace and development as the nation prepares for the 2023 general elections.
He said the deployment of corps members away from their state of origin was informed by the need for the assemblage of persons with diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds”, This policy will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony and shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.”
He enjoined them to sustain the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated especially by remaining compliant with the Camp rules and regulations.
“You are also strongly advised to be security conscious at all times, and to report any suspicious characters or activities around you to the appropriate authorities.”
The Acting DG expressed hope that once the NYSC Trust Fund bill is assented to by the President, it will enhance the smooth operations of the scheme, especially by addressing the challenge of infrastructure, boosting the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme and empower corps members for self-empowerment and wealth creation.
He also restated the call on critical stakeholders to support the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD), which is aimed at providing easier access to free and qualitative health care, “The Federal, State and Local Governments, as well as security, traditional rulers, Corps employers and other stakeholders, were commended for putting the welfare and security of corps members as a top priority.”
