January 23, (THEWILL) – Novak Djokovic displayed a commanding performance on Monday evening at the Australian Open as he easily defeated local favourite Alex De Minaur in a straight-sets victory of 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.

The match began with Djokovic taking control early on, not allowing De Minaur to establish any momentum. He secured the first break in the sixth game and followed it up with another break two games later to seal the first set.

The second set saw Djokovic continue his dominance, breaking early once again and winning an impressive nine games in a row before De Minaur could finally get on the board to avoid a bagel. The final set was more of the same, with Djokovic’s relentless serving efficiency and baseline game causing problems for De Minaur. Djokovic broke in both of De Minaur’s opening service games and raced into a 3-0 lead, ultimately leading to his victory.

Following the match, Djokovic expressed his satisfaction with his performance to Eurosport’s Barbara Schett, stating “I felt great with my leg today, the best I have felt this tournament and I felt freer to move around.”

He will now face Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals after the Russian won a thrilling match against Holger Rune earlier in the day.
