February 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s recent transfer activity has caused a shake-up in their squad for the UEFA Champions League, as revealed on Friday.
THEWILL recalls that the Blues brought in several big-name players in the January transfer window, including Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, and Joao Felix, on loan from Atletico Madrid. This required some adjustments to the squad to make room for their recruits.
Unfortunately for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, he was one of the players, who missed out on a spot in the 25-man List A squad. Aubameyang scored twice during the group stage of the Champions League—in wins over Milan home and away, but will not be able to add to his tally when the Blues face his former club, Borussia Dortmund.
Benoit Badiashile, who arrived from Monaco for a fee of around £33 million, also missed out on a spot in the squad. Despite his big-money move, he will have to watch the European campaign from the stands.
Chelsea’s transfer activity, which was behind criticisms of big-money transfers from La Liga, has also caused a ripple effect in their squad, but they hope their recruits will help them make a deep run in the Champions League.
