November 20, (THEWILL) – In spite of the desire of Marko Arnautovic’s family for him to return to England, the Austrian has claimed that he chose to stay at Bologna and had to turn down Manchester United’s several attempts to sign him during the most recent transfer window.
Arnautovic, a former forward for West Ham and Stoke City, was mentioned in connection with a transfer to United during the club’s hiring of Erik ten Hag, as THEWILL previously reported.
After Cristiano Ronaldo stated his wish to leave Old Trafford, the Red Devils reportedly contemplated a deal for Arnautovic, but the 33-year-old had revealed that he insisted that he wants to stay in Italy, a decision he is content with.
Speaking before Austria’s 8:45pm friendly against Italy on Sunday, the 33-year-old said: “Manchester United tried to sign me several times and it was a difficult decision to stay in Italy, because my family wanted to return to England.
“For me, it’s clear that the Red Devils remain at the top of the universe and Bologna, as a name, are not. But that’s fine. Here everything is calm, you have time for yourself and no stress. This is only good for me.”
