September 08, (THEWILL) – At the Diamond League in Zurich on Thursday, Nigeria’s world record holder, Tobi Amusan, set another record when she finished ahead of the competition in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.

Amusan successfully defended her Diamond League title after crossing the finish line in 12.29 seconds. Britany Anderson from Jamaica placed third with American Tia Jones finishing behind Amusan in the 12.40s.

It is a marked improvement from the 12.42 seconds that the Nigerian ran to go home with the Diamond League trophy the previous year when she set an African record. It also is a continuation of her excellent record-breaking form.

She won the women’s 100m hurdles gold medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in August after breaking the hurdles record in the semifinals of the World Athletic Championship one month earlier with a 12.12 seconds finish.

The 25-year-old also successfully defended her African championships title at the World Athletics Diamond League in June with a time of 12:57 seconds. She is now the first and only Nigerian to win the African, Commonwealth, and World titles in the same calendar year.
