September 18, (THEWILL) – Oluwatobiloba Ayomide Amusan, the current Commonwealth and world champion in the women’s 100-metre hurdles, has expressed excitement and happiness with her most recent ranking, which World Athletics revealed on Friday evening.
Amusan, who was rated 43rd in September 2021, has climbed 38 positions to become the fifth-ranked athlete in the world, while her countrywoman Ese Brume has climbed 32 spots, from 93rd to 61st, during the same time period.
Amusan successfully defended her Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham after setting a new record in the 100-metre hurdles with a run of 12.12 seconds at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She also earned a gold medal for Nigeria earlier this year in Mauritius at the African Senior Athletics Championships.
At the World Athletics Championships, Brume took home a silver medal in the long jump, and at the Commonwealth Games, she won gold.
At the presidential event held on Thursday, at the State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, the Federal Government honoured both athletes for their outstanding contributions to the nation.
