September 15, (THEWILL) – Emmanuel Amuneke, a former coach of Nigeria’s age-range team, the Flying Eagles, has been named head coach of Zambian powerhouse Zanaco.
Amuneke, a legendary player in the annals of Nigerian football, will reportedly arrive in Zambia soon to join his new team.
Amuneke, who was previously coach of the Golden Eaglets and the Super Eagles, has likely travelled more than any other Nigerian coach in recent memory, thanks to his work in Egypt and with the Tanzanian national side, whom he led to their first AFCON victory since 1980 in 2019.
Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kelechi Nwakali were among those he most notably coached, when the Golden Eaglets won the 2015 U-17 World Cup under his leadership. He formerly held coaching positions with Al-Khartoum and Missr El Makkassa in the Egyptian Premier League.
Amuneke will be joining Zanaco, a 44-year-old club in Lusaka, the country’s capital. They last won the MTN/FAZ Super League six years ago. With only four games played this season, they are currently ranked ninth in the 18-team league.
