January 25, (THEWILL) – As the campaigns for the 2023 governorship election gather momentum, women of Uyo Senatorial District have endorsed the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, as their preferred governor after Udom Emmanuel.
The women under the umbrella of Uyo Senatorial District Women Forum (USDWF) affirmed their support during a thanksgiving/endorsement ceremony of PDP candidates held at the Ibom Hall grounds, Uyo.
In her remarks, the president of the forum, Dr Ekaette Ebong Okon, noted that the forum conducted a thorough assessment of all the candidates for the governorship position in all the parties and found that only Pastor Umo Eno has the needed credentials, competence and desired qualities to further on the peace and development strides of the present administration in the state.
According to her, “After due consideration, the women of Uyo Senatorial District have resolved that they have not seen any other candidate worthy of taking over from our father, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel.
“Having searched into the character, intelligence, capacity and competence of all the candidates contesting for the governorship seat, the women of Uyo Senatorial District have found Pastor Umo Eno to be the only one that has the capacity, character, competence and compassion to handle the tough job.
“So today, the 24th day of January, 2023, all the women of Uyo Senatorial District, hereby confirm and affirm that Pastor Umo Eno of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is endorsed as the preferred governorship candidate in the 2023 governorship election. We also endorse his running mate, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, for all the candidates of the PDP for the coming elections”, she stated.
In his response, Pastor Umo Eno appreciated the women for the vote of confidence reposed on him and assured that the women, and Akwa Ibom people in general would not be disappointed.
Pastor Eno, who was accompanied by his wife, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Eno, herself, a member of the forum, and the deputy governorship candidate, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, maintained that Governor Udom Emmanuel has already set a standard for women inclusion in politics, adding that such laudable gesture would be sustained by his administration if voted.
According to him, “The administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel through our mother, has already set a very high standard for women and it will be difficult to bring it down especially since it has pleased them to give women the first incoming Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
“I thank you all and I want to say that the incoming Government will continue to support women and work with women in various political offices. We won’t forget you, we’ll continue to empower you to ensure you continue with your various businesses. We will empower our women because once you empower a woman, you have empowered a community”, he assured.
The high point of the event was the presentation of certificates of endorsement to Pastor Umo Eno and all the candidates of PDP in the Uyo Senatorial District.
