January 22, (THEWILL) – Ajax avoided defeat in the De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam on Sunday, where they drew 1-1 with the Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord.
The home team had taken the lead with a goal from Brazilian striker, Igor Paixao, in the 34th minute, but Ajax’s Davy Klaassen equalised in the 71st minute, preventing Feyenoord from securing the win.
The match had Borussia defender Calvin Bassey putting in a proper shift at the left of the back line. He created one goal-scoring opportunity up front but it was in the defence that he most contributed with three clearances and seven recoveries.
Ajax, led by coach Alfren Schreuder, have now gone six matches without a win and have drawn its last five matches in a row. The reigning champions are currently in fifth place, five points behind Feyenoord, who maintain their lead in the league.
The result keeps Feyenoord in the lead of the league, two points ahead of AZ Alkmaar and three points ahead of PSV Eindhoven, who defeated Vitesse on Saturday. In dropping to fifth, Ajax has been overtaken by Twente.
