Again, Etubom Conclave Proclaims Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V As Obong Of Calabar


January 19, (THEWILL) – The Etubom Conclave of the Palace of Obong Of Calabar has again, proclaimed the Etubom of Adiabo Ikot Mbo Otu House, Etubom Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, as the Obong of Calabar.

Chairman, Etubom’s Conclave, HRH Etubom Ntiero Edem Offiong Effiwat, disclosed this after a meeting of the Conclave at the Palace of the Obong of Calabar, Effanga Ansa street, Henshaw Town, Calabar.

He said in compliance with the Supreme Court’s judgement of January 13, 2023, which ordered that Etubom’s Conclave (kingmakers of Obong of Calabar palace) conduct another selection process for Obong of Calabar, the kingmakers have re-proclaimed His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu the V, as Obong of Calabar.

According to him, “The turn to produce the next Obong of Calabar after demise of his Eminence, Edidem Prof. Nta Elijah Henshaw VI, being that of Atai Iboku group of houses in (Western Calabar), as provided for under the constitution of Etubom’s Council 2002, the qualified Etuboms, who fall under this group were communicated to and directed to produce and present their nominee to the Etubom’s Conclave by January 18, 2023.

“The most senior Etubom of Atai Iboku group, HRH Etubom Otu Efa Otu, presented thier selected nominee for the throne of Obong of Calabar in person of HRH Etubom Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu of Adiabo Ikot Mbo Otu House.

“Having been fully satisfied with the candidates qualifications and eligibility, the Etuboms Conclave, therefore, declared him the successor and hereby conveys his PROCLAMATION as the successor to the to the throne of Obong of Calabar today, 18th January, 2023”, Etubom Efiwatt said.

The proclamation was also endorsed by the secretary to the Conclave, HRH Etubom Eden Ita Essien Ededem, as well as thirteen other Etuboms in the Palace.

The supreme Court had in its 13th January, 2023 judgement ordered the Etubom Conclave to conduct another process of selecting the Obong of Calabar in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of Etuboms Council 2002 and in strict compliance with the rules of natural justice.
