January 09, (THEWILL) – In a closely contested match on Sunday, Roma came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Milan in the Serie A.
Milan had taken the lead in the first half when Pierre Kalulu, scored with a downward header from a corner kick and Tommaso Pobega, doubled their lead 13 minutes from time. Despite a lack of opportunities, Roma fought back in the second half and were rewarded when Roger Ibanez, pulled one back against the run of play in the 87th minute.
Just as it looked like the match would end in a narrow victory for Milan, Tammy Abraham scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Roma a single point.
The draw was a dent to Milan’s hopes of retaining their Serie A title, as they now sit seven points behind Napoli in the race for the Scudetto. Jose Mourinho watched the match from afar as he served a touchline ban. The result was a hard-fought and well-deserved point for Roma against a strong Milan side.
Both teams will have little time to think about the exciting finish to Sunday’s match, as Milan will face Torino in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday, and Roma will play Genoa in their cup match on Thursday.
