January 10, (THEWILL) – Cameroon international, Vincent Aboubakar, may have had the last laugh in his recent exchange with Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr, after taking a swipe at new signing, Cristiano Ronaldo, on his way out.

THEWILL recalls that the club terminated Aboubakar’s contract after signing Ronaldo, and the 30-year-old striker is leaving after making a bold claim about the Portuguese superstar. According to reports from NTV Spor, Aboubakar said, “I always thought that Messi was better than Ronaldo, but after I had practice with him, I knew I was right.”

Aboubakar made 34 appearances for Al-Nassr and scored 12 goals since joining the club in 2021. However, he was released due to a Saudi League rule which states that a club can only register up to 8 foreign players with Aboubakar being the unlucky player to be let go.

Despite the release, Aboubakar and the club have mutually agreed to terminate his contract and he will be compensated by Al-Nassr. Reports from France have suggested that Manchester United are looking to bring Aboubakar to Old Trafford on a short-term deal.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, will have to wait until January 22nd before making his debut for Al-Nassr as he is currently serving a suspension for an incident in November when he smashed a fan’s phone at Everton’s Goodison Park. He has already sat out one match of his 2-match ban and will miss one more before resuming in the 14th round of the Saudi Arabian League against Al Ettifaq.
