January 28, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Senator Sandy Onor, has made public his development plans for the state.

This was detailed in a document presented to members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday, at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre, as part of Senator Onor’s routine media engagement.

Titled “My covenant with the people of Cross River State”, the thirty-six-page document also contains a four-page citation of the governorship candidate.

The document outlines his ‘Restoration and Development Programme (ReDeP)’ for the state and aims to create an enabling environment wherein the medium and major facets of the state’s economy will become sustainable again and private sector driven.

Senator Onor’s ReDeP focuses on three thematic areas covering economic and socio-political development and comprises Economic development, Infrastructural development and Human development.

The document also reveals that Senator Onor’s governance approach “will be consultative in order to facilitate the participation and buy-in of the people of the state into government policies and programmes, to ensure that people take ownership of such policies.

“Due process shall be an integral part of our governance and we shall institute through legislative systems, procedures, processes and policies that promote due process and transparency in all facets of governance.

“The Civil Service, which is the engine room for the implementation of government policies and programmes, will be re-engineered and reinvigorated for more effective service delivery.

“In the same vein, the Local Government shall be resuscitated for optimal positive effect in service delivery for majority of our citizens, who inhabit the rural areas.

“We shall reevaluate the current tax regime in the state and institute a new tax system, which establishes taxation as the basis of the social contract between the government and the citizens, as partners in development and wealth creation.”
