December 30, (THEWILL) – The governorship candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ogun State, Com. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has promised to improve on the N500 million quarterly pension and gratuity paid to pensioners in the state if elected
Governor Dapo Abiodun had at a forum, said he had paid a total amount of N70 billion pension and gratuity to the retirees in the state since the inception of his administration, a claim which the pensioners later disagree saying Abiodun only paid N3 billion
But, Oguntoyinbo, while speaking on his manifestos to the pensioners in Abeokuta, insisted that he would improve on the quarterly amount received by them to cater for their wellbeing and health as well as reduce their hardships.
He said he would not toy with the lives of the retirees and ensure the prompt payment of their pensions and gratuities. Many of them are battling with various illnesses in their old age that could lead to untimely death.
The gubernatorial candidate, who stressed that it was imperative for the government to cater for the welfare of the pensioners as only God knows the remaining time they had on earth to live, hinted that he would not make them suffer if they cast their votes for him come 2023 election.
He said, “The purpose of visiting them is that what the incumbent is giving them is not what we are supposed to be talking to the public. We now look into how we can make a solution to that issue or problem. We all know most of them are old men and women.
“It is only God that knows the remaining time they will spend on earth. So it is time for us to take care of them in the area of their welfare, gratuity and pensions. And by the time we come on board by the grace of God, a substantial figure will be given out to improve on the 500 million quarterly payment of gratuity and pension to them,” he added.
