January 18, (THEWILL) – The Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, has denied claims in some media reports that the “ECWA President will announce presidential choice soon”.

In a statement signed by ECWA Public Relations Officer, Rev Romanus Ebenwokodi, ECWA noted that “in the course of its Extraordinary General Church Council meeting, its attention was drawn to mischievous and malicious publications by certain sections of the media” to the effect that it has a preferred presidential candidate for the forthcoming elections, and that it is set to make known the candidate of its choice.

“The General Church Council hereby states that at no time did it make such a resolution, and the ECWA President did not at any time during the proceedings of the Council make the statement credited to him by the newspapers in question,” the statement noted.

The statement said further that “ECWA as a denomination has its members across all political parties and the leadership of ECWA respects that,” adding that “we need the teeming members of ECWA, the Church in Nigeria, and the general to understand that the said publications are absolute falsehood that has never been contemplated, and is meant to cause unnecessary that is capable of dragging the good name of ECWA to the mud.”

Accordingly, the ECWA has advised and demanded the affected sections of the media to publicly withdraw the said publications, and tender public apologies to it within twenty-four hours beginning from noon today.
